April 20th, 2008 -- Posted in Health Insurance, Health Reviews, Health care | No Comments »

Governments across nations are still fighting the cause of life-threatening diseases such as AIDS, malaria, dengue, SARS and polio. As such the idea of universal health care has found prominence today. As part of the universal health care system, countries are providing adequate medical treatments and affordable health insurance policies are being provided to its citizens. These affordable health insurance plans are paving a way to health for many. However, a number of third-world countries are still grappling with providing the basic health care facilities. In such a scenario the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION which was established in 1948 with the objective of “the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health” has stepped up its efforts to contain the outbreak of diseases, provide basic medical and health amenities and distribution of safe drugs and vaccines. The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION coordinates its efforts with governments across the globe. As part of its mission to alleviate the general health of people, the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION has published a list of essential medicines that all countries’ health care systems need to make available. Funded by some privileged institutions, the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION through its consistent efforts has already succeeded in eradicating small-pox and is in the process of developing vaccines against malaria and polio. Its volunteers organize regular camps for free-medical check-ups for the poor in some third world countries. Together with the help of WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, governments across the world can gradually achieve the dream of a healthy world.

In maintaining good health for yourself and you family, you have a larger responsibility in applying for health insurance. The health insurance plans go a long way to be made more affordable to you. The Truth about Universal Health Care

The idea of universal health care suggests that there would be adequate and affordable health insurance and health care facilities for each individual, irrespective of their financial status, sex or the region they hail from. In some European countries like Germany, UK and certain South American countries such systems backed by sound affordable health insurance policies, health care facilities like hospitals, drug and health food stores, health clinics, timely vaccination camps for children and detailed medical examinations for the elderly have already been put into place. This is however not the case as far as third-world nations are concerned – already grappling with financial, food and medical problems the problem is further aggravated because of lack of education and awareness about health and diseases. The other major issue in these parts of the world is a lack of awareness about women’s health. Government, private bodies and NGO’s therefore need to join hands to educate the common man about the importance of women’s health, and the availability of food and medicine at the health food stores and the dispensaries. Malnutrition, thyroid, arthritis, cancer are severe life-crippling illnesses that women face, and as such it is the duty of every government to enforce universal health care systems where through greater communication and co-operation between health professionals and people a happy and healthy nation would emerge.

A health coverage program which is extended to all the citizens of a governmental region along with the permanent residents, universal health care program vary greatly in terms of their funding mechanism and structure, with regards to the degree in which they are funded publicly. All the costs entailed in providing the health care are either covered by taxation or by health insurance or may be by a combination of both. Just like the procedure involved in the enactment of legislations, regulations and mandates the universal health care system also requires the involvement of governmental proceedings for approval.

The broad concept of universal health care can be implemented in many ways with the most common denominator being the action of government which is aimed at generating an access to health care for all citizens while many other countries use regulations, legislations and taxation for the implementation of universal health care program. To whom and in what basis should the health care program is to be distributed is directed by the government’s legislation and regulations where some of the health related costs are borne by the patients themselves but it is subsidized through taxation and other compensations provided to the patients by the government.
